Manic Monday: Carol (Late)

Manic Monday: Carol

Ahhhhhhh Christmas carols. Those lovely melodies that bring about visions of spirituality, love, family, reindeer with social acceptance issues…
None of those bring a smile to my face or glow to my nose like Elmo and Patsy belting out the ever popular Christmas classic: “Grandma got ran over by a Reindeer”.
My grandmother (Lula) HATED that song. I, of course, loved singing that song to her just to driver her batty. I miss her on a daily basis. She got me. She always knew what to say and always made everything better. There are few people on this planet that know my soul, and she did.
This time of year I think of her more often and wish we could sit and just chat. “Grams, you are NOT going to believe what I did this time” She would believe it. Some people get teary singing, “I’ll be home for christmas” or “I am dreaming of a white Christmas”. Not me, this country girl gets teary at “Grandma got run over by a reindeer, walking home from our house Christmas Eve, you can say there is no such thing as Santa, but as for me and Grandpa, we believe.
I sing the song aloud still, and turn it up uber loud while driving. I know that she can hear me. Being bratty transcends everything. :) I love you Grams.

grandma got runover by a reindeer
walking home from our house christmas eve
you could say theres no such thing as santabut as for me and grandpa we believes
he'd been drinking too much egg nog and we begged her not to go
but she forgot her medication and she staggered out the door into the snowwhen
we found her the Christmas morning
at the scene of the attack
she had hoofprints on her fore head and incriminating Clause marks on her back
grandma got runover by a reindeer
walking home from our house christmas eve
you could say theres no such thing as santa
but as for me and grandpa we believe
now we're all so proud of grandpa
he's been taking this so wel
lsee him in there watching football
drinking beer and playing cards with cousin Nel
its not christmas without grandma
all the family's dressed in black
and we just cant help but wonder
should we open up her gifts or send them back?(send them back!)
grandma got runover by a reindeer
walking home from our house christmas eve
you could say theres no such thing as santa
but as for me and grandpa we believe
now the goose is on the table
and the pudding made of fig (ah!)
and the blue and silver candles
that would just have matched the hair in grandmas wig
i've warned all our friends and neighbours
better watch out for yourselves
they should never give a license
to a man who drives a sleigh and plays with elves
grandma got runover by a reindeerwalking home from our house christmas eve
you could say theres no such thing as santabut as for me and grandpa we believe(sing it grandpa!)
